Perfect Powder Rooms

I absolutely adore powder rooms packed with personality and, thankfully, there are no shortage of great examples of them. Just like opening a jewelry box, these tiny spaces are an opportunity to reveal your personality with special lighting, appropriately-scaled artwork, and a signature scented candle. The walls are truly your canvas -- whether you select a whimsical wallpaper, a sophisticated grass cloth or a high gloss paint, color is key.

Spring Greens

Photo: Eric Piasecki

Now is the time to lighten up for spring! Many people find spring a wonderful time to freshen up their rooms with new pillows, a coat of paint and pretty accent pieces. Although finding the perfect shade of green can be time consuming, once you do it is an immediate mood booster. Green also happens to be a very healing color, so if you're in need of a little comfort grab your green cashmere throw and snuggle up.

Today I am sharing my favorite rooms decorated with various green accents. (And also a few covered in it!) Please visit my Pinterest Board for more green decor inspiration.

Outdoor Elegance

At last, spring has arrived and all I want to do is sit outside and absorb a few rays of sunshine. Moving from Georgetown, D.C. to New York City was a big adjustment, as you might imagine, and one of the things I miss the most is our lovely garden and outdoor dining space. We used it to wine & dine as well as enjoy a little chill time after a long work week.

I have had to come to terms with the fact that my Juliet balcony is my only private outdoor space. My husband reminds me that we now have an entire park, centrally located in our front yard: Central Park! I am sharing a few of my dream outdoor living spaces as a reminder that any amount of outdoor space can be maximized and beautiful. Mastering The Shelfie

Photo: Amber Interiors

Do you ever feel like your home is begging you to declutter it? Prioritizing the meaningful items in our lives allows us to appreciate them even more. It is often difficult to find either the time, the space, or the energy to make the shift from just putting something somewhere to considering which items really make you happy -- and then how best to display those items in the most pleasing way.

Enter bookshelves, one of my best friends in decorating. Bookshelves are not just for books but are also a perfect nook to display photos, artwork, sculptures, silver, etc. They can be painted in semi gloss colors to add warmth and/ or a focal point to a room, or you can paint (or wallpaper) just the backs of them to create a personal touch. You can even decorate your bookcase with beautiful lighting!

I hope that these photos inspire you to create a unique bookshelf of your own. When you're done post a shelfie with #fromtherugup. Browse more beautiful bookcases on my Pinterest Board.
