2019 Kips Bay Decor Details

Custom bronze & Murano glass light fixture; Dining Room designed by Cullman & Kravis

The Kips Bay Decorator Show House in New York City is considered by many to be the most prestigious show house in the country.  The 47th one is currently being held on the Upper East Side and runs through May 30th -- if you haven't already visited it, be sure to stop by. Proceeds from this event support the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club in the Bronx.

The overall trend, without a doubt, is a revival of Art Deco. Needless to say, the participating designers are A-List / Top 100.  Although the photos of each space have already been shared multiple times over, I thought you may enjoy seeing some of the most impressive details I came across.
After all, design is in the details....

The spaces I favor most are Robert Passal's "Salon de Reflexion," done in collaboration with Daniel Kahan Architecture, Brian Gluckstein's main staircase, and Katherine Newman's "The Pink Dragon Study". Bravo to all of the amazing designers this year; well-done!

I typically never place a TV over a fireplace, but this is the exception.
Black glass hides this TV and turns into a moody illuminated luxury.

Eve Robinson's room is beautiful and my favorite element is the light fixture from Jeff Zimmerman, which has a ribbon effect and is made from hand blown soda glass.

Chinese Porcelain Lamps by Daniel Barney; Design by Charlotte Moss
Charlotte Moss's master bedroom was a spirited adventure from the moment you entered. She draped the room in a custom blue and white gingham check from Bernard Thorp & Co. and infused the space with fine porcelain, fabrics, and a gorgeous display of faience.

Stunning Aqua Marinaci Vanity Stone; Room design by Pappas Miron Design

Mirror by Maison Gerard, LTD; Entry Gallery design by Richard Rabel

Custom bronze and stitched leather suspended bookcase by Katherine Newman; Room design by Katherine Newman
Katherine Newman's "The Pink Dragon Study" is another favorite of mine. Her attention to detail is exceptional and her suspended bookcase made with Jerry Pair leather is a showstopper.

Stylish Nurseries

Whether you are planning for either a baby boy or a baby girl, nurseries are becoming more & more about the comfort of both baby and you, mama! Focus primarily on a few key pieces that you will utilize the most, then layer with small trinkets & gifts from your baby shower, from  trips that you & your partner took prior to baby -- essentially any meaningful items that bring you joy.

The crib is always the main event, but you should also consider a very well-made & comfortable rocker and ottoman, too (these do not have to be matchy matchy, but keep in mind ottomans should always be 1-2" lower than the chair itself). I suggest beginning with an inspiration image and then collaborating with a designer to help you achieve the look you want.

Framed art can go a long way in terms of decor and adding a colorful wall in your nursery - Consider fun colors for the matting and frames too! Don't be intimidated to create a gallery wall, wallpaper the room, or create a hand-painted mural. Performance fabrics are a practical option for upholstered pieces, which are stain resistant (Kravet and Thibaut have some great options!), or you can choose a linen cotton blend if you prefer no chemicals (try Pindler & Pindler or Colefax & Fowler fabrics).

If you're searching for a great registry for baby gear and accessories to complete your baby haven, then I highly recommend Little Birdies Boutique, an upscale children's clothing and accessories boutique that also offers custom in-house monogramming!

Bermuda, Baby!

Happy Friday! I hope you all are taking some time to relax this weekend and maybe plan a fun trip with your friends or family. There are so many wonderful places to consider when planning summer travel and I highly recommend including Bermuda on your list! My husband & I love traveling to Bermuda at the end of the summer every year; the weather is idyllic then and it is only a 90 minute flight from New York City. We like to begin our trip with a couple of nights at a hotel on the beach, where John can have his bodysurfing time and I can have my late morning breakfasts on the sand, and then we like to head to Tucker's Point for a more upscale experience.

I can't wait to return to Bermuda and I hope these pics from our most recent trip inspire you to visit too! Don't forget to stop by the Swizzle Inn for a traditional rum cocktail and bowl of fish chowder, the colorful shops along Front Street in Hamilton, the Rosewood for a spa treatment, and the Waterlot Inn for an unforgettable dining experience from start to finish.
