Repurposing: The Console

My clients often ask if they can keep an existing piece of furniture, and, if so how exactly to repurpose it so that it works with the new design scheme. While I occasionally have to reject some pieces that simply aren't right for one reason or another, I always try to retain existing pieces that are in good condition. Here is an example of an older piece of furniture that I repurposed in my bedroom in order for it to be more functional.

My mother bought me this console for my first apartment and I couldn't let it go. I needed storage for my jewelry that would be more accessible than a jewelry box, so I converted the top drawer into exactly what I needed. I lined the drawer with my existing jewelry storage trays and filled in with some of my favorite pieces.

For special items, I included a pretty silver pill box and colored glass ring holder inside of the storage trays. You can use anything for these items, but these two were perfect for me!

For hair accessories: I used the top of a shoe box I was getting rid of to display a few favorite hair accessories.
